It's hard work being a punk.

Emmie was "bone to be wild" for Halloween. She did ok with our dozen or so trick or treaters. There was barking but she calmed down fast.

Rub-a-dub-dub, Puppy in the Tub.

So Emmie decided to celebrate her adoption by playing in the mud and running through every puddle she could find in the yard. It was great fun that earned her a bath. We had purchased a rubber bathmat for just such an occasion. Don't want her slip sliding around. After an initial toweling off on the porch we got her inside and into the tub with the help of a treat. She was pretty well behaved and only tried to escape once. Chris had the honors of climbing in the tub and getting his hands dirty (so to speak).

It took a stack of towels to get Emmie mostly dry and then we tried the hair dryer. Emmie was not a bit fan. It took some treats and a corner to get her the rest of the way dry. Emmie's coat is even softer than before, and she's not covered in mud anymore.

Sign on the dotted line

Emmie's adoption papers are complete and we are officially puppy parents. Yay! We are so happy. We totally hit the puppy jackpot with Emmie. Adopting a lab through Brookline Lab Rescue has been a great experience. They truly do great work.

Emmie gets her yard back!

The rain ended, the sun came out and 3 men came and finished our fence. Emmie is so excited to have free run of the yard again, and since the fence is higher than the old one, we feel comfortable letting her off the line. It will be nice to see how fast Emmie runs around the yard once the grass is dry.

It can't rain all the time.

Another gross rainy day back at the office. Emmie has already had some fun running the halls. she's a little tired now, which is a very good thing. she's been getting a little stir crazy with all the rain and not having a fenced in yard to run in.

Tastier than V8

Steph figured out how to get Emmie to eat some fruits and veggies. All she had to do was grate some carrot and apple into some plain yogurt. She left a little bit of carrot at the bottom of her bowl after the yogurt was gone but she still got some healthy stuff in her belly.

Emmie and the Fence

Today was a very exciting day.
Today is new fence day, well day 1 of 3 fence days.
Emmie was very alarmed when strange men and a truck pulled into our yard. She will definitely be good at alerting us to stranger danger.
So Emmie and Chris went outside to investigate. Chris armed himself with a baggy of yummy treats. Emmie was a very good girl once she met the nice men that came to put her fence up. A lot got done but not a lot of fence got put up. Today involved a lot of jack-hammering and demo of the old fence. Tomorrow should see much more completed since the front with the slope and the gates is pretty close to being done.

Michelle took Emmie for a very long walk this morning and they both came back pretty tired. Emmie stayed inside for most of the day since the yard was no longer secured. Chris got a lot of yard work done while the fencing guys did their thing.

Tonight with Emmie's dinner we tried giving her green beans. It did not have the desired effect, but it did slow her eating down a bit as she picked out the green beans and spit them out onto her mat. Guess its a good thing that she is not overweight.

Lets sign those papers and make you ours.

Today marked the end of our pre-adopt period for Emmie. We are totally in love with her and definitely want her as a permanent member of our family. The only thing left to do now is sign the papers and get Emmie signed up for some obedience training.

Overdue post- Emmie's trip to the vet!

Last Monday, Michelle and Stephanie (me!) took Emmie to the vet for her required baseline physical. We went to the Animals' Hospital of Levittown at the recommendation of two of my co-workers. We had to wait for quite a while but Em was content to sniff as much of the waiting room as the leash would allow! Once we got in the exam room, she jumped right up on the scale/exam table. As expected, Dr. Kearse found that Emmie is in great health & a really terrific dog :) She's up-to-date on all of her shots & weighs the perfect amount for a female lab her size (68 pounds- but don't let that get out... )

Dr. Kearse agreed that Emmie probably has allergies (she's been chewing on her feet & we've noticed bloodshot eyes) and recommended Benadryl. So it's official- everyone in the house has bad allergies! We're quite a group!

We've stock up on heartworm preventative & Frontline for the ticks/fleas and we hope we won't be seeing Dr. K until next September!

Its been 2 weeks...

Since we got Emmie,
We Love her so much, She's part of our family.

So its been an amazing 2 weeks. Even the un-fun parts like scooping poop aren't so bad. Emmie seems to be fitting in well with our family. She is doing great with her crate. We are still treating her to get her to go into it, but I think that she might be getting close to not needing treats.
We are working on Emmie's manners also. She is doing fairly well with the sit, down and stay command. We have been practicing the "come" command outside in the yard. She is getting really consistent and will even come when the pups are out in the yard next door. We still haven't gotten Emmie and the boys together in the same yard but they seem to really get along through the fence. Emmie really isn't a barker and some of our neighbors have even commented on that. Wishing their dogs were better behaved.

Our fence has not been installed yet but we are almost there. We have the permit, the parts are on order and we just need to set up an install time and day.

It is really crazy that it has only been two weeks since we brought Emmie home. We are all getting so settled into our routines that it seems likes its been much longer.

Mobile Update

Testing out posting from my cell phone. here is a cute Emmie pic from breakfast time.
